Donald J. O’Brien, Sr., 84, a life-long resident of Center, died March 10, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 17, 1933, in Center Township, son of the late Thomas and Edith O’Brien. He retired from J&L Steel as a millwright after 40 years of service. He also worked for Bill Patton Construction and the Center Area School District. He was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Ashley Cronin, and siblings Dorothy McCracken, Mary Jane McCracken, Bob O’Brien and Thomas O’Brien. He leaves behind his cherished wife of 63 years, Ellen (McGrogan) O’Brien; children, Maureen O’Brien of Chippewa (Keith Whipple), Don O’Brien, Jr. of Frederick, Maryland (Debbie), Mary Kay Bartosh of Center Township (Ron), Mary Ellen Watts of Center Township (Mike), Patti Cronin of Leesburg, Virginia (Dave) and Colleen Keller of Conway (Ed); 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and great grandson, Parker, due in April; sister, Ruth Molnar of California and brother Paul O’Brien of Florida. Don loved spending time with his family best of all. He also enjoyed camping, traveling and fishing. A special thank you to Cambridge Village, Villa of St. Joseph, the cardiac unit at Heritage Valley and Good Samaritan Hospice for the loving, compassionate care given to Don and his family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
