Dorothy Lothrop, 91 of Vanport, formerly of Monaca passed away Sunday, Sept 20, 2015 at Heritage Valley, Beaver.She was born on January 29, 1924 near Canonsburg, PA. and was the daughter of the late John and Domicella Mroziak Vancovich.Dorothy was a lifelong member of St John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca where she received her first holy communion in 1932 which was the first communion class in what was then the new St John’s church. She was also a member of St. John’s Christian Mothers and a former volunteer of Meals on Wheels. Following graduation from Monaca High School, class of 1942, Dorothy was offered employment in Washington D.C., with the Department of Defense, Army Air Corps and in 1946 transferred to the Veteran’s Administration. She returned to Monaca in 1948 and went to work for Kopper Co (Kobuta plant). She later worked as a secretary for the Monaca School District, retiring in 1985.She and Howard Lothrop, Jr. were united in marriage on July 11, 1952 and shared 40 years together until his passing in May 1992. She was also preceded by two brothers, Rudy and Albert and three sisters: Josephine Kerr, Genevieve Tisch and Rose Yard.Surviving are three sons: Robert K. of Vanport, Richard (Denise) in West Virginia and Howard J. (Laura) in Tennessee. Two daughters, Sue (Richard) Moore of Houston, Texas and Jeanne Yozaites in Virginia. Nine grandchildren: Jennifer Moore, Matthew Moore, Sarah O’Neill, Stephen Yozaites, and Allison, Katie, Mary Beth, Julia and Laura Ann Lothrop.She is also survived by a sister, Celia Demarco of Vanport with whom she loved playing cards.Friends will be received on Monday, Sept. 21st from 6-8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where parting prayers will be offered on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic, Monaca.
