Ruby L. (Weaver) Crawford-Holliday, a long-time resident of Rochester and Monaca and also Pittsburgh passed away peacefully in Pittsburgh on June 10, 2017 at the age of 101.
She was born on April 6, 1916 in West Blocton, Alabama, one of 12 children to Calvin A. and Tempie (Medders) Weaver. All of her brothers and sisters predeceased her, including her twin brother Rupert (Bill) Weaver. When she was very young, her family migrated to Southern Illinois to work in the coal mines.
Upon graduation from West Frankfort High School, she attended God’s Bible School in Cincinnati where she also worked as a secretary. It was there that she met our father, J. Curtis (Curt) Crawford. They were married in 1941. After Dad’s service in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, they settled in Rochester to raise their family.
Dad worked at Spangs/Armco in Ambridge until he died in 1968. In 1970, Mom married E. Dale Holliday, a widower whom she had known from church in earlier years. They lived in Rochester while Mom worked in the office at Rochester High School. They later moved to Monaca, where they lived until Dale died in 2008.
Mom is survived by her children; John (Anita) Crawford of Shoreline, WA, Barbara Johnson of Pittsburgh, Ruth (Ed) Bender of New Sewickley, two step-children; Dawna Holliday (Tom) Craig of Chippewa and Dale (Linda) Holliday, Jr. of Rochester.
