Ruth Kathryn “Bid” Stewart, age 94, of Center Township, Pennsylvania passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018 surrounded by the love of her family. Because of the exceptional love and care given to her by her daughter and son in law, Bid was able to live out her life’s journey in the comfort of her home with the people she cherished the most.
Bid was born on May 1, 1924, to the late John Martin Winkle and Emma Erickson Winkle. She was raised and lived her entire life in Center Township. She was Lutheran by faith and was a lifetime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Center. She married David Stewart, Sr. on September 10, 1949. Together they raised three children. “Bid” or “Gram” as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, was devoted to taking care of her family. She came from a close-knit family that enjoyed camping trips every summer, trips to the casino and playing bingo. Bid and her brothers and sisters had a bond that could never be broken. She was also a founding member of the Our Night Out Card Club, and a member of the Turners bowling league for many years. Later in their lives, Bid and Dave enjoyed dancing every weekend with their friends. She took great pride in having an immaculate home and a meal always on the table. Her baked goods were second to none and now those recipes will live on through her daughter and grandchildren.
Bid was preceded in death by her husband Dave in 1991, her brothers and sisters; Edward and Orphie Winkle, Evelyn “Tess” and Brownie Salasky, Ronald and Judy Winkle, her brother-in-law, Francis Bruce and her grandson-in-law whom she loved dearly, Robert Marshall.
Bid is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Richard Rock, with whom she resided, sons; David (Maggie) Stewart, Jr., John (Adriel) Stewart, all of Florida, grandchildren whom she adored, Tammi Rock Marshall, Center Township, Traci Rock (Ed) Hupp, Chippewa Township, Kristie Rock Miles (Brian Eldridge), Center Township, and David (Susan) Stewart of Oklahoma. She was the best GG in the world to Katelyn Elizabeth Miles and Alexa Nicole Hupp. Bid also leaves behind her only surviving sister, Leola “Punk” Bruce, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and friends.
Friends will be received on Monday, July 2, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca followed by a funeral service on Tuesday at 11:00 am in the Faith Lutheran Church, 100 Center Grange Road, Center Township.
