Frank J. “Spaniard” Trella, Jr., 88 of Monaca passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Good Samaritan Hospice, Heritage Valley, Beaver
A lifelong resident of Monaca, Frank was born on July 17, 1930, a son of the late Frank J., Sr. and Mary Trella. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a machinist’s mate fireman aboard the USS Columbus and the USS Coral Sea during the Korean Conflict. Frank worked in the construction trade as a cement mason his entire life and was a 60 year member of the Cement Local Union #526, Pittsburgh. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca where he ushered for 10 years and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a long time Pony League baseball coach, an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan and a life member in the American Legion Post # 580 and the former Monaca Polish National Alliance #841 whose building he helped to construct.
Frank is survived by his wife, Jacqueline (Smith) Trella, four children; Frank P. (Shelly) Trella, Mike (Violet) Trella, Connie (Fred) Perino, and Robert (Shari) Trella, nine grandchildren; Meghan Trella (Katie Tackett), Abigail Trella, Brandon (Michelle) Perino, Douglas (Hilary) Perino, Amanda (Chris) Glasgow, Michael (Caitlin) Trella, Austin (Korina) Daley, Stephen (Amy) Daley, and Corrine (Josh) Thomas, thirteen great grandchildren and two expected great grandchildren. Two brothers; Charles “Whip” (Dorothy) Trella, and Martin “Gubby” (Maria) Trella and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings; Sophia (Trella) Paster, John Trella, Michael Trella, Catherine (Trella) Grossglass, Stanley Trella, Joseph Trella, Paul Trella, Pete Trella, Helen (Trella) McDonnell, and Henry Trella.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, followed by prayers at 9:30 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery with full military honors by the Beaver County Special Unit at 11 am.
The family would like to thank Anova Home Health Care, Gallagher Home Health Care, the nurses on Heritage Valley Beaver’s second floor and Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver’s nurses, particularly, Jessica Alberti for the care he received.
