Carmela Battaglini, 84 of Monaca passed away Saturday morning, December 3, 2022 surrounded by the family she cherished. Born in Pratola, Italy, Carmela immigrated to Monaca in 1956 with her late parents, Trieste and Emilio DiBacco, and her sisters, Maria and Rita . Carmela was united in marriage with the late Tony Battaglini on January 24, 1959.
Nourishing hearts and stomachs, Carmela found solace in generously serving homemade food to friends and family. Carmela rolled thousands of meatballs, rolls, and biscotti from scratch to the delight of anyone she met. Carmela shared her gifts in the kitchen with Monaca Sons of Italy and at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where she was a member. As if that wasn’t enough, she also spent years feeding thousands of students while working in the cafeteria at Monaca High School.
In addition to her husband of 52 years, she leaves her daughter, Amy Petrosky and her husband, Tim, of Lititz to mourn. She is rejoined in Heaven with her late daughter, Anna Maria Folmar and is survived by her son-in-law David Folmar of Conway. Carmela will be deeply missed by the grandchildren she adored, Jason Folmar and his wife Katie, Ashley Pryzbylkowski and her husband Mark, Elizabeth and Nick Petrosky, and great grandchildren, Amelia and Cecilia Folmar. Carmela will never be forgotten by her two sisters, Maria Trella and her husband Martin of Monaca and Rita DiBacco of Aliquippa, and her nieces and nephews Theresa Hovanec, Mark Trella, Mark and Bobby Carroll, Nino and Ricky Lucci, and Diane Hare.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, December 8th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca where prayers will be offered on Friday, December 9th, at 9:00 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca.
Entombment will follow in Beaver Cemetery Mausoleum.
