On Tuesday June 6, 2017, Charles O. ‘Chuck’, ‘Dewey’ Dewhirst of Monaca passed away at Heritage Valley Beaver. He was the son of the late Lola and Carl Dewhirst from New Brighton, PA. He is a 1960 graduate of New Brighton Area High School. He was an avid baseball player throughout his school career and a softball player after graduation. Charles served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. Charles was a former member of the 5th Ward Fire Department. He was also a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Monaca.Charles was the former owner of Dewhirst Paneling and Dewey’s Deli. He enjoyed fishing and going to the casino but his favorite pass time was enjoying his grandchildren. He loved watching Matthew train in karate, compete at bowling, and play the guitar. He loved watching Melissa cheer, play piano, compete at bowling, and softball.Charles was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Eugene ‘Duke’ and George.Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Ruth Ann (Michic) Dewhirst, his son and daughter-in-law- Joe and Regina Dewhirst, his grandson and fishing buddy, Matthew Joseph, and his granddaughter Melissa Angelina who was his honey girl. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Dorothy Dewhirst, and a sister and brother-in-law Mary and Garry ‘Jake’ Venn as well as numerouse nieces, nephews, and great friends.Friends will be received on Thursday, June 8 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm at the Tatalovich Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 3475 Brodhead Rd, Monaca where prayers will be offered on Friday at 9:15 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. Entombment will follow in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, 2186 Brodhead Rd., Hopewell Township, PA with full military honors provided by the Beaver Count Special Unit at 11:30 am.Charles would also like to thank his friend, Dr. Bob.In lieu of flowers please send memorial donations to the St. Vincent DePaul Society in care of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca, PA
