Charles E. McConnell, Sr., 82, of Vanport, died peacefully with family by his side at Friendship Ridge on Monday, October 20, 2014.He was born May 6, 1932, in Parkersburg, W. Va. Charles worked at J&L Steel for 30 years before retiring in 1982. He served in the US Army in Tulie, Greenland and was awarded the good conduct and national defense service medals. Charles loved working on cars, junking and repairing them.He will be sadly missed by his loving children, Linda Bennett, David (Marty), Charles E. II, Kimberly (Paul) Mohney, Ray and Mike (Marcy); five grandsons, Jay, Andrew and Chris Bennett and Mikey and Matthew McConnell; five granddaughters, Jessica (Mike) Rowley, Nicole Toma and Meagan, Melissa and Brittany McConnell; three great-grandsons, Tyler Rowley, Nate McConnell and Brayon Toma; three great-granddaughters, Brenna Toma, Ashley Bennett and Allyson McConnell, along with many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Alice R., who passed in August, 2013, and a brother, Ralph “Sonny” Kiger.Friends will be received Friday, October 24th, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Susan G.
