Charles W. Speer, 91, of Monaca, was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, June 13, 2013.
Born March 10, 1922, in Ambridge, he was a son of the late John V. and Carrie (Fisher) Speer. While proudly serving as a Staff Sargent in the US Army Air Corp during World War II, Charles married the love of his life, to Alma Beth (McIntosh) on November 18, 1943. He began his career in the draftsman?s room at H. H. Robertson in Ambridge, where he later retired as a project manager. Charles supported his community and church in numerous capacities as an active member of North Branch Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and deacon. Charles was also a member of the Monaca-Center F. & A.M., Chapter #791, New Castle Consistory, Valley of New Castle, an ambassador of the Syria Temple Shrine, past president of Caravan #18 and a past deputy of the deputy unit. Charles was a former member of the BPO Elks Club, Aliquippa, and the Retired Men?s Association of Beaver County.
In addition to his loving wife, he leaves two daughters, Cynthia W. Lang and her husband, Charles, of Mercer and Deborah M. Hess and her husband, Jeffrey, of Beaver Falls; four grandchildren, Lt. Col. Edward Lang and his wife, Christine, of North Carolina, Christine Bradley and her husband, Joseph, of Aliquippa, Chad Hess of Beaver Falls and his fiancé, Jessica Sinclair and Jason Hess and his wife, Lindsey, of Wampum and ten great grandchildren.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, John L. Speer, Ralph T. Speer, Clifford H. Speer and Kenneth Speer and two sisters, Carolyn Jones and Bessie Eisenhute.
Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in Schleifer Funeral Chapel, 998 Atlantic Avenue, Monaca.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m., at North Branch Presbyterian Church, 139 North Branch Road, Monaca. His pastor, Andy Beery, will officiate.
Full military honors will be provided by the Beaver County Special Unit at the church at 11:30 p.m.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca (724 728-4000).
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to North Branch Church.
