Christina Garofalo Corrado, 81, of Monaca, passed away Friday evening, July 31, 2009, at Heritage Valley Beaver surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 26, 1928, in Pacentro, Prov. of L’Aquila, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Marco and Adelina (DiPilla) Garofalo. Christina was seven when her parents settled in West Aliquippa on Dec 27, 1935. In 1948, she graduated from Aliquippa High School. She was a devout catholic and loved her church. She previously sang in the St. Joseph Catholic Church choir in West Aliquippa and was currently a faithful parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. She was also a member of St. Anthony Congregation in West Aliquippa.
She was an excellent homemaker and loved to cook and bake and showed everyone the true meaning of Italian hospitality. She was a loving and caring lady with a wonderful sense of humor and laugh that was a gift to all even in her last days.
On May 6, 1950, Christina and her beloved Rinaldo A. Corrado were united in marriage in St. Joseph Catholic Church. God blessed them with four children who were the center of her life: Laura Corrado of Monaca, Elaine Corrado Gardner and her husband, Kevin of Roseville, Ca.; Marian Corrado Leo and her husband, Joseph of Monaca and Jim Corrado of Monaca; four loving grandchildren: Jennifer Leo of Alexandria, VA., Joey Leo of Monaca, Connor Gardner and Kayla Gardner, both of Roseville, CA; a devoted sister, Mary Garofalo Scarsella and her husband, Z. Adrian of Monaca and a brother, Raymond Garofalo of Rochester. She will also be sadly missed by her two sisters-in-law: Mary Palombo and Lucy Belcastro, and a brother-in-law, Emilio Corrado, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received today from 1 to 8 p.m. in the SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, (724-728-4000), where prayers will be offered on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
