Cornelius P. Cronin, Jr., 87, of Monaca, passed away Tuesday morning, December 9, 2014, at Friendship Ridge.Born June 5, 1927, in Monaca, he was a son of the late Cornelius P. Sr. and Minnie (Depner) Cronin. Mr. Cronin proudly served his country in the Merchant Marines (US Coast Guard) during World War II. He was a retired electrician who worked at Pittsburgh Tube and Steel. Cornelius was a former member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monaca and attended Rock Christian Fellowship in Rochester until his illness. He was also a former member of American Legion Post #580 in Monaca. Cornelius stayed active by remodeling his home and working in his yard. He loved being with his children and grandchildren. In his leisure time Cornelius enjoyed working with stained glass, hiking and appreciating nature.He will be sadly missed by his wife, Rosemarie (Stanyard) Cronin, with whom he was united in marriage on June 5, 1981; four children, Cornelius ‘Mickie’ Cronin III in Florida, Linda Diane Slentz of Beaver, Dianne Henderson and her husband, Bill, of Freedom, and Steven Klimasewski of Monaca; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Michael (Irene) Cronin of Monaca, a sister, Theresa Elizabeth Gerace of Rochester, and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents Cornelius was preceded in death by a daughter, LuAnne Wogan and three brothers, Dennis Cagney Cronin, Thomas Cronin and Phillip Cronin.Friends will be received Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Todd Smith of Rock Christian Fellowship officiating.Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.To share online condolences, get directions and other information, please visit simpsonfuneralhome.com.
