Cynthia “Cindy” M. Grimes

Cynthia (Cindy) Grimes (66) of Monaca pa, born November 12th, 1956, passed away at home surrounded by her daughters on July 15th, 2023.
Cindys greatest accomplishment was breaking through a “man’s world” and becoming the first female Tow Boat pilot and later, the first female Tow Boat Captain in the river industry. She dedicated herself to her work, spending 40 years working on the tow boats until she had to retire due to illness. When Cindy wasn’t working, she spent every day with her grandkids. Her grandkids were her pride and joy and, she strived to be the best grandma she could be to them, and she was an amazing grandma.

Cindy is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Miles (Edmund) of Monaca, PA and Melissa Hartley (Jim) of Hopewell, PA, grandkids, Amber Miles, Kara Miles, Mark Miles and Brayden Miles of Monaca, PA, Katelynn Plumm of Alliance, OH and Samantha Plumm of East Liverpool, OH and three great grandkids, Sirentity, Courtney and Frankie.

The family expresses their deepest appreciation to the AHN Cancer Institute in Monaca, PA, as well as, AHN Hospice Care for their constant care and support.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, July 24th at 5pm until 8pm at the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca PA
