Donald Lee Gallagher, Sr., 86, of Monaca, PA, passed away peacefully at the Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on August 15, 2015, following an extended illness. He was born to the late UnaFay and John Gallagher on October 17, 1928, in Monaca.Donald retired from the Boiler Plant of Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation after 39 ½ years. He subsequently became an employee of the American Red Cross, where he delivered blood products within a tri-state region. He was an active member of Monaca Station #57 (formerly #4) Fire Department for 50 years, where he served as the department’s chaplain. Don was also a member of the Western Pennsylvania Firemen’s Association where he served as an elected board member to the county and state. He also served as past president of the Western Pennsylvania Firemen’s “Old Timer’s” group.He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Alice; his son, Donald L. Gallagher, Jr. and daughter, Susan Kelly; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.He was preceded in death by his siblings, Gladys, William, Russell, Raymond, Carl, Harold, Margaret, Ruth and Lois. He is survived by one sister, Betty.Don was a member of the Aliquippa Christian Assembly.Friends and family will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. Rev.
