Doris Jean John, 81 of Brighton Township, formerly of Vanport, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016, at her residence.Born December 11, 1934, in Vanport, she was a daughter of the late Theodore C. and Edith P. (Welsh) Willoughby. Raised in Vanport, Doris was a graduate of Beaver Area High School, Class of 1954, and furthered her education at Community College of Beaver County where she received a degree in accounting. She joins her husband, Donald O. John, who preceded her in death on June 16, 2016. She had previously worked at J.C. Penney in Northern Lights before finding employment at Crivelli Chevrolet as an automobile title and payroll clerk for over 20 years. A devout member of Monaca United Methodist Church, Doris served as the assistant treasurer and also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a past president, vice president and treasurer of United Methodist Women. Doris was also a former member of Monaca Jr. Women’s Club where she enjoyed performing in skits for the club. In later years she was elected treasurer of the Francis Farmer Tenant’s Association, where she enjoyed playing cards, bunco and dominos and also had recently appeared in a play at the apartments’ community center.She leaves to mourn her loss a daughter, Donna Jean Johnston and her husband, David W. of Vanport; two granddaughters Amanda J. (Mike) Melnyk of McKees Rocks and Krystle (Shawn) McCartney of Hopewell; two great-grandchildren, Cassidy Grace Melnyk and Logan John McCartney and a brother, Theodore Willoughby of Harrisburg.Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. with her pastor, Rev.
