Dorothy Ballish Mooney, 91, of Monaca passed away on January 1, 2018 at Heritage Valley, Beaver.Born on September 15, 1926, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Yendrek) Ballish. Dorothy was a 1943 graduate of Monaca High School. In 1946, she married James Mooney of New Brighton and were the parents of two daughters. Dorothy retired from the former Cammar Building and Loan Association in Monaca following 48 years of dedicated service in 1991. She held numerous positions at Cammar over the years as Vice President, Manager and a Board of Director. Dorothy also served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Beaver-Lawrence County Savings and Loan League and Treasurer of the Boro of Monaca for eight years. She was very active in her community where she was a member and past president of the Monaca Band Parents for ten years; Ladies Auxiliary of the Fourth Ward Fire Department where she was Treasurer for forty years, a devoted Christian Mother at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca, and member of the Senior Citizen, Turners Club, Saxon’s Club,, all of Monaca. Dorothy was a long time and last surviving member of the Cardettes Card Club and a girl scout leader for ten years. In 2014, Dorothy was recognized for her many years of community service by being inducted into the Monaca Hall of Fame.Surviving is a daughter, Janet McKeever, of Monaca, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, all of Monaca and many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Mooney on December 7, 2011, a daughter, Patricia Weigle in 1983, a brother, James Ballish; a sister and brother in law, Rose and Frank Lyons, and sister in law Dorothy DeMaggio.Friends will be received on Sunday, January 7 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca where the St. John the Baptist Church Christian Mothers will offer prayers on Sunday at 4:00 pm. Funeral services will begin with prayers on Monday at 9:30 am in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. John the Baptist Church, Monaca.
