Eleanor (Phillips) Smith, 86, of Monaca, passed away Sunday morning, October 12, 2014, at her home.Born July 3, 1928, in Monaca, she was the only child of the late Charles and Anna (Simms) Phillips. A graduate of Monaca High School, Eleanor was united in marriage to Lester Smith who preceded her in death in 1975. She was employed at St. Joe Lead Company in the cafeteria and later at J.W. Hall’s, from where she retired. A lifetime member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and currently serving as the church council vice president, Eleanor formerly taught Sunday school and, as a volunteer, worked various jobs at the church including serving funeral luncheons and Salvation Army dinners. Her presence at the church leaves a void that will be hard to replace. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #580, Monaca, and a supporter of the Beaver County Humane Society. She will be sadly missed by her canine companion, Daisy.In addition to her husband and parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by a daughter, Leslie Ann, in 1960 and a son, Derek, in 1975.She leaves several cousins including Robert Simms and his wife, Esther, in New York and Sandra Walker in Arizona, along with several other cousins and special friends, Dolores Bandish of Center Township, Emma Ofcharka of Monaca, Lori Brown of Brighton Township and Debbi Kaskalavich of Monaca, as well as her extended church family.Friends will be received on Tuesday, Oct. 14th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where family and friends are welcome to meet on Wednesday at 10 a.m. prior to processing to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 819 Washington Ave., Monaca for a service at 11 a.m. Rev.
