Elizabeth A. ‘Betty’ Vlasic, 91, of Monaca, passed away Monday morning, May 19, 2014.Born March 8, 1923, in Ambridge, she was a daughter of the late Matthew and Ann (Flajnik) Vlasic. After entering the Sisters of Mercy, Pittsburgh, Betty enrolled in Duquesne University where she earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in music. During her years as a nun she taught at Mt. Mercy College (now Carlow University). She relocated to Toronto, Canada, where she taught at St. Ambrose School. Following retirement, Betty returned home to Beaver County and settled in Monaca. She was a faithful parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca, where she was an active member and past president of the parish’s Christian Mothers organization and a longtime member of the chancel choir.She will be sadly missed by a son, Stanislaus Brack and his wife, Mary Jo, of Hopewell Township; a daughter, Georgeanne Brack of Patterson Township; her former husband, George Brack, of Toronto; nine grandchildren, Charlene Hamilton, twins Joseph and Jacqueline Malcomb, Nicholas Malcomb, Stanislaus Brack, Jr., Dominique Brack and triplets Robert, Nathaniel and Veronica Brack; two great-grandchildren, Zhamere Hamilton and Allyauna Malcomb; a sister, Joanne (Charles) Smith of Baden, and a brother, Thomas J. (Cynthia S.) Vlasic, Carrolltown, MS.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Veronica Johnson, and two brothers, Charles and Bernard Vlasic.Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. in the SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca (724-728-4000), where parting prayers will be offered Friday at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca.Interment will follow in Good Samaritan Cemetery, Fair Oaks.To share online condolences, get directions and other information, please visit simpsonfuneralhome.com.
