Ellen M. Reese Nixon of Beaver went Home peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2019 to be with our Lord surrounded by her daughters, Kim and April and granddaughter, Nicole after a short, unexpected illness at Allegheny Hospital, Pittsburgh PA.
Ellen was born on April 1, 1938 in Beaver Falls, PA.
She will be celebrating in Heaven with her parents, Martha Ramer Reese and William Clare Reese and son-in-law David Kassell.
Ellen is survived by her husband of 62 years, Wallace William Nixon Jr. and a brother, William Clare Reese II (Kay). In addition to her daughters, Kimberly J. Nixon and April Kassell, she is also survived by her stepsons, Angelo Nixon (Kathy) and Wallace Nixon Jr (Ilene) and granddaughters, Nicole Gallagher (Ryan), Michelle Ross (Chris), Sarai Nixon O’Toole (Tim), Joy Nixon, Josie Nixon, and Katie Nixon. Ellen had 7 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ellen was a trailblazer and a trend setter who was unique and driven. Early in her career she was a bookkeeper for Berkman’s Department and Zeiden’s Men Stores in Beaver Falls, PA. She retired as an insurance adjuster for Erie Insurance in Cranberry, PA. In retirement, Ellen started a plus size clothing boutique (LN’s Styles) in Beaver, PA and spent many years as the elected Vanport Township Tax Collector. Ellen was always very busy sewing and embroidering for friends and family while being involved with numerous clubs and organizations that included the Woodlawn Chapter # 164 Order of Eastern Star where she was a Past Worthy Matron, Red Hat Society, Bridge and card clubs.
She will be missed by the countless friends, family, and acquaintances that she has touched.
The family invites those who have been touched by Ellen to Simpson Funeral and Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca on Wednesday November 20, 2019 from 2 – 4pm and 6 – 8pm for visitation hours. Her funeral will be held on Thursday November 21, 2019 at 11am at Simpson Funeral Home with a family friend, the Reverend Mary Gould officiating. A procession will follow to Sylvania Hills Mausoleum. The Woodlawn Chapter # 164, O.E.S. will conduct service on Wednesday at 7:30 PM. Memorial donations can be made in Ellen’s name to the National Kidney Foundation, www.kidney.org.
