Elsie DeChellis Mandarino, 91, of Monaca, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday evening, May 13, 2017, at Heritage Valley, Beaver.Born June 2, 1925, in Monaca, she was the last surviving child of the late Dominic and Lucy (Sebastian) DeChellis. A graduate of Monaca High School, Elsie met the love of her life, Samuel L. Mandarino, on the dance floor. They were especially fond of the jitterbug. On November 5, 1955, she was united in marriage to Sam, who preceded her in death on January 1, 2004.A devout member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monaca, Elsie was also a member of the parish’s Christian Mothers and the former Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed cooking and taking care of her beloved family. Most recently Elsie was residing at Franciscan Manor in Patterson Heights, where she spent her days playing bingo.She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Michele Holzworth and her husband, Mike, of Monaca; her granddaughter, Ashley Nash and her husband, Brian, of Brighton Township; a brother-in-law, Joseph Silvestri and a sister-in-law, Juanita DeChellis, both of Monaca; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Larry Garuccio of Aliquippa and Patty and Pete Homitz of Monaca; numerous nephews and nieces, and great-nephews and great-nieces, along with her best friends and neighbors, Vicky Alexander and Helen McNear.In addition to her husband and parents, Elsie was preceded in death by five sisters and their husbands, Stella and Carl Manzo, Josephine and John Tuccinard, Viola ‘Yo’ and Orazio ‘Razz’ Petrella, her twin sister, Alma DeChellis and Virginia Silvestri; three brothers, Christy DeChellis, Richard DeChellis and James ‘Chelly’ DeChellis, and Sam’s family, Mary Ellen and John Genova and Lois Zigerelli.Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, where prayers will be offered on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca.
