Erma L. Marcello, 84 of Center Township, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on September 15, 2023. She was a woman of great love, kindness, and warmth, who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
Born to the late David C. Huffman and Rebecca Huffman McElhose, Erma was the cherished wife of the late Joseph B. Marcello, Jr. whom she married on September 28, 1957, at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monaca. Their love story is one for the ages, beginning when they were just 13 years old. The couple got engaged on Erma’s high school graduation day, marking the start of a lifelong partnership filled with love and mutual respect.
Erma and Joseph were blessed with two loving children, Joseph B. III Marcello and Sherri L. Angelis. In addition to her children and their spouses. Lisa Marie and John. Erma’s legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Johnny (Melissa) Angelis, Jr., Joseph B.. (Kara) Marcello IV, Brandon M. (Lauren) Marcello and her late grandson, Sam Joseph Angelis. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Sawyer, Thea, and Luca Joseph. Erma also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends who will remember her fondly.
Erma was the dear sister of Delores White, Samuel McElhose, Stanley McElhose, and the late Edward Huffman, Mary Ellen Buchanan, Gladys Sovich, and Betty Bender. She was known for her friendly nature and welcoming spirit, with a personality so engaging, she never met a stranger.
Erma’s working career included working at the former Golden Dawn Grocery Store and for Hart to Hart Day Care. She was a diligent worker who brought her unique touch of warmth and kindness to her workplace. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca, and Celtics Red, Aliquippa.
Erma’s interests were as diverse as they were engaging. She enjoyed ceramics, a hobby that allowed her to express her creativity. She also loved cooking and baking, a passion she used to bring joy to her family and friends. Her dishes were not just meals, but expressions of her love and care.
Friends will be received on Sunday, from 4-8 pm at SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, 724-728-4000 with a brief service to be held on Sunday at 7:30pm at the funeral home with VITAS Chaplain Don Scandrol, officiating. Prayers will be offered on Monday at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10am at Mary, Queen of Saints Parish, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
