Eugene R. Barto, 97 of Monaca was reunited with his beloved wife, Lorraine on Tuesday evening , April 16, 2019. His passing occurred at Cambridge Village, Patterson Twp.Born October 2, 1921 in Monaca, he was a son of the late Stewart and Mary (Dockter) Barto. Gene was a graduate of Monaca High School and attended business school in Beaver Falls. In 1942, he entered the U S Army Air Corp during WW II. After returning from abroad, he was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant in 1945. Gene worked his entire career at J & L (later LTV) Steel’s Aliquippa works, retiring from the payroll department. He was a devout member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monaca where he served the church in numerous capacities. His willingness to help others was not limited to family and church members but to neighbors and community as well. A Mason, Gene was longtime member of the Rochester Lodge #229, F. & A.M., the New Castle Consistory and the Syria Shrine. He was a life member of the American Legion Post # 580, Monaca. Gene and his late wife, Lorraine shared similar interests as traveling, wintering in Florida and gardening.Six weeks ago on March 3, 2019, Gene was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 69 years, E. Lorraine (Morrison) Barto . Gene was also preceded by two sisters, Marion Kaszer and Rose Ciccone and a brother, Charles Barto.He leaves a brother, Stewart ‘Dutch’ Barto and numerous nieces and nephews.Private visitation and services were held Friday, April 19th in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca.
