Frances LaPenta, 93, of Monaca died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on February 8, 2022 at Heritage Valley Sewickley, of natural causes.
Born in Beaver Falls, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Rose (Castracane) Agostinelli. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church of Monaca. She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Salvatore LaPenta in 1996, whom she married on June 1, 1949.
Frances was a talented artist, craftsman, seamstress, competitive athlete, and musician. She generously taught and shared these gifts with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A retired employee of Kmart Corp. and the travel agency, Frances traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe well into her 80’s. Never one to be complacent she always had a jigsaw puzzle, knitting project, piano book, and a stack of novels at her fingertips. She contributed her youthful glow to good genes and an occasional frozen margarita.
Surviving are her children Angela Span of Beaver, PA Christina (Patrick) McCloskey of Destrehan LA, Salvatore (Roxane) LaPenta, Julia (Michael) Dragonjac of Beaver, James (Tammy) LaPenta of Orlando FL, Charles LaPenta of Freeburg, PA and Anita LaPenta-Shiel of Rochester, PA.
She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Amanda (Michael) Bock, Amelia (Rob) Shillingsburg, Sean (Lena) McCloskey, Marc (Nicole) McCloskey, Kelly (Matt) Cali, Erin (Tim) Kurnocik, Brian LaPenta, Francie (Nate) Morelli, Elizabeth (Brad) Nixon, Bethany LaPenta, Alana LaPenta, Emma LaPenta, C.J. LaPenta, Madeline (Alison) Shiel, and Samantha Shiel. Her great grandchildren Isabella Bock, Alexandra Bock, John Shillingsburg, Peter Shillingsburg, Grace McCloskey, Olivia McCloskey, Ellie Kurnocik, Chase Kurnocik, Isla Morelli and Alexander McCloskey.
Frances will be sadly missed by her brother James Agostinelli of Beaver Falls, PA and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law Frank Span, sister Beatrice Podbielski and brother Pasquale Agostinelli.
The family would like to thank the compassionate care and kindness she received while at the Concordia at the Villa at St. Joseph, especially Minnie Baker whom she considered part of her extended family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Monaca on Friday, February 18th at 11:00 am where Father Jean-Luc will officiate. Private family Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Monaca. Masks are strongly recommended.
