Freda Palmquist, 92, of Monaca, passed away, Saturday, February 6, 2016, at her home.Born October 30, 1923, in Fallston, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Grace Featherstone. A graduate of Monaca High School, Class of 1940, Freda played drums in the high school band, and after graduation, she found employment with Phoenix Glass Company in the office. In June of 1948 Freda was united in marriage to Robert E. Palmquist in the First Presbyterian Church of Monaca, which was under construction at the time. A lifelong and faithful member of the church, she along with her sister, Mary Reigel, were longtime members of the alto section of the church choir and many church members also remember Freda as the secretary, serving for 21 years, retiring in 1991. Just a few weeks ago Freda and her family travelled to Chicago to hear her granddaughter, Rebecca, play with the University of Chicago Symphony Orchestra.She will be sadly missed by her son, Robert F. Palmquist and his wife, Lorene L., of Tuscon, AZ, their daughter, Hannah Spivey and her husband, John W. III ‘Trey’, and their daughter, Aubrielle, of New Ulm, MN; her daughter, Kathryn Flore and her husband, Jan, of Monaca and their daughter, Rebecca Flore, of Chicago, and a niece, Sandra Reigel of Center Township, along with her many friends and church family.In addition to her parents Freda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert E., on April 12, 1984, and her sister, Mary Reigel in 1998.Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. with her pastor, Reverend Beth Wierman, officiating.
