Garry W. “Jake” Venn, 77 of Monaca passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Heritage Valley, Beaver.
Born in Rochester, he was a son of the late Clement R. and Katherine (Hawk) Venn and was a graduate of Rochester High School.
Garry was united in marriage to the former Mary Catherine Michic on July 24, 1965 and from this union had a daughter, Denise who meant more to him than anything else in the world. Determined to provide for his family, Garry worked for 40 years as a carpenter with Local Union #420. He was passionate about his community and spent untold hours as a volunteer fireman with Monaca V.F.D. #5 having previously served as their fire chief for 11 years. He also served two terms as a Monaca Borough Councilman and as a local fire marshal.
As a young man, he served in the United States Army National Guard as a Sergeant First Class. Golf was his favorite past time. Garry was a member of the Beaver County Retired Persons Bowling League and Golf League.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Catherine Venn, a daughter, Denise (Dennis) Myer of Chippewa and a granddaughter, Sydney whom he adored. He is also survived by a sister, Emma Jean Yeager of Rochester, a niece, Kathy Miller, and a Godson, Joseph Dewhirst. His two best friends were Edward Kemp and Richard Brooks.
Friends will be received on Sunday, February 28, 2021 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm in the SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 WASHINGTON AVE., MONACA where private services will be held. Entombment will follow in Beaver Cemetery, Beaver.
A firemen’s LAST CALL service will be held on Sunday at 4 pm. at the funeral home.
The family has suggested memorial contributions be made, if desired to the Rochester Salvation Army, 378 Jefferson Street, Rochester, PA 15074.
