Gary David Smith, 79 of Center Township passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020 in Heritage Valley Hospital, Beaver.

Born in Bellevue, (Allegheny County) Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Donald W. and Elda (Altvater) Smith.

He proudly served his country as a US Navy Seabee and Vietnam veteran, then reenlisted into the US Air Force from where he retired. Gary then graduated from LSU Shreveport and taught diesel mechanics. While living in Louisiana, Gary enjoyed spending time fishing and boating. Since coming backto Pennsylvania he particularly loved spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gary will be sadly missed by his wife Judy (Williams) Smith, three children; Brent (Christine) Baux, Kathy (Shawn) McGinnis, and Steve Baux, eleven grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 sisters in law, many nephews and a niece.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Donald Smith, a sister, Nancy Leader, and three brothers; Wayne, Roger, and Warren Smith.

A memorial service for family will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 11 am at Four Mile Presbyterian Church, 6078 Tuscarawas Road, Beaver, PA 15009.

Arrangements were entrusted to Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca.

Gary will be so sadly missed, he was such a good neighbor and friend , Steve will miss his buddy, he will be in our hearts forever.....

I will dearly miss my Uncle Gary. This photo was the last time I saw him in person other than talking on the fun. He told me stories of childhood and how rambunctious he was. They called him “the mad scientist” when he was a child, he would read encyclopedias and learned how to build just about anything! He was hilarious and always brought warmth to my heart. We have quite a distance between us, but anytime we were able to chat or see each other when he would visit the times were cherished. Uncle Gary will be dearly missed and always remembered. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? I will forever miss my Air Force buddy! We have kept in contact for over 40 years since serving together in Bitburg Germany. He was the one to make me fall off of his Harley!
