George M. Tew, 73, of Monaca, passed away of natural causes at his home earlier in the week.
Born July 31, 1933, in Monaca, he was a son of the late George W. and Ella (Miller) Tew.
He married the former Dolores J. Brautigam, on Dec 26, 1952. Mrs. Tew passed away Feb 25, 1994
George was a 1952 graduate of Monaca High School and was a U.S. Army combat veteran of the Korean Conflict and Purple Heart recipient. An avid American Indian hobbyist, George had participated in numerous Indian Pow Wows around the country. Since 1992, he has served as chairman of the American Indian Gathering at the CCBC Dome. He was also serving as the president of the Logstown Association. George had been involved with Scouting for over 50 years and was the leader of the former Fort MacIntosh Indians Dance Team which had performed throughout the Tri State area. He retired as a U.S. postal worker from the Monaca Post Office
In addition to his parents, and his wife, Dolores, George was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew, on April 27, 1992.
He leaves a son and daughter-in-law, George E. and Karen Tew of Wickliffe, Ohio; a granddaughter, Heather Berry and her husband, Gene of Wilmer, Texas; a grandson, Christopher Tew of Norfolk, Va. who is serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Dwight Eisenhower, and a great-granddaughter, Victorya Grace Berry
Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, (724-775-0926), where relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park
Full military honors will be provided by the Beaver County Special Unit on Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. at the cemetery.
