George Plaskonos, age 96 was reunited with his beloved late wife, Cecelia on Sunday, June 20, 2021. Cecelia’s passing occurred in 2013.
A lifelong resident of Monaca, George was a son of the late Semko Plaskonos and Mary Pravid Plaskonos Basar.
In 1943, as a young man of 18, he was inducted into the U S Navy during World War II and honorably served as a carpenter’s mate, second class. After returning home from the war in 1946, he gained employment with J & L Steel’s Aliquippa works and used his carpenter skills as a maintenance planner. Having a ‘green thumb’, he loved to garden and also enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and a life member of the American Legion Post #580 and the Beaver Valley Sportsman’s Club, all of Monaca.
In addition to his parents and wife, George was also preceded by three sisters, Anna Koziol, Mary Stripay and Sally Shawger and a brother, Steve Plaskonos.
He leaves three children: Patricia (Robert) Gwin, Donna (George) Gary and Keith (Lauren) Plaskonos. Five grandchildren, Matthew and Cody Gary, Aaron (Tarren) and Elise Plaskonos and Cristy (C.J.) Szelestey. He also leaves three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Thursday, June 24th from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, where parting prayers will be offered at 12:30 pm followed by a mass of Christian burial at 1pm in St John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery will full military honors by the Beaver County Special Unit.
The family has suggested memorial contributions may be made in his memory, if desired, to a veteran’s organization of the donor’s choice.
