George W. Bennett, 73, of Monaca, formerly of Economy Boro, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2013.
Born January 15, 1940, in Monaca, he was a son of the late Wayne L. and Edna P. Bennett. George served as a medic in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a welder at Dravo Corp. until it closed and later worked as a self-employed mechanic and painter. A member of the Rochester V.F.W. Post 128, he enjoyed bowling at Baden Bowl, but his real passion was fishing.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 46 years, Sara (Pitch) Bennett; five children, Larry Feenstra, Leah Garlick, Linda Bennett, Marea Robbie and George Bennett, Jr.; nine grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and brothers and sisters, Geraldine Kerr, Charles Bennett, Daniel Roy Bennett, Trudy Finch, David Bennett, Leonard Bennett and Robert Bennett.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a daughter, Anita MacDonald, a brother, Wayne Leonard Bennett, Jr. and a sister, Edna ?Sis? Gillin.
A private family viewing will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. at Pinewood Memorial Gardens, 20950 Route 19, Cranberry Township. Minister Ben Lang, of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah?s Witnesses, Monaca, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the funeral home to defray expenses.
