Gordon Stephens, 87 of Center Township, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018 in Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver.Born on February 24, 1931 he was the son of the late Clarence and Marjorie Ellen (Bostwick) Stephens. As a young man, Gordon served in the US Air Force following WWII. He then trained as an ironworker and joined the Iron Workers Local Union No. 3, Pittsburgh where he spent his working career. Following his retirement, Gordon drove a school bus and trained drivers for the Center Township School District. He thoroughly enjoyed riding his Honda Goldwing traveling around the country and golfing at the East Palestine Country Club and Rolling Acres Golf Course. Gordon was an active member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Beaver where he served as head usher and as a member of the visitation and property committees. He also helped with the upkeep and maintenance of the church and put his ironworker’s skills to work refurbishing the church’s steeple.A Mason, he was a member of St. James Lodge #457 F & AM, Beaver, the Consistory of New Castle, the Syria Shrine and Beaver Valley Caravan.He will be sadly missed by his wife, Esther I. (Lynch) Stephens; a son, Donald (Judy) Stephens of Monaca; three grandchildren, Pamela, Michael, and Matthew, a brother, Victor Stephens and five sisters, Barbara Starcher, Mary (Joe) Magliocca, Marjorie Morrison, Boneta (Paul) Foltz and Glenna Watkins. Two sisters in law, Yva Schoerner and Verlee Fischer. Numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends; Jack (Joyce) McMillen, Earl (Marion) Naugle and Mary Parker.Gordon was preceded in death by his parents.Friends will be received on Tuesday, August 14th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 pm. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday at 11:00 am in the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1098 Third Street, Beaver with Reverend Freda Snyder officiating. (Please meet at church). Interment will follow at Beaver Cemetery where military honors will be performed at 12:00 pm by the Beaver County Special Unit. Contributions may be made in Gordon’s memory to the Beaver County Humane Society, 3394 Brodhead Road, Aliquippa, PA 15001.
