Hazel Nedrow, 89, of Center Township, went to be with the Lord on Sunday evening, July 10, 2016. Her passing was unexpected.
Born March 13, 1927, in Albright, WV, she was one of twelve children born to the late William Troy and Esther Florence Hardesty. Hazel and her husband, Paul, moved to this area in the late 1940’s where she found employment as a secretary with Cooperative Extension in Beaver County for 17 years. A faithful member of Van Kirk Lutheran Church in Center Township, she served as the choir director for many years until 1999. Her love of music led her to become a member of the Madrigal Singers of Beaver County from 1987. The group performed at area churches and hospitals. Hazel enjoyed playing cards in her card club for over 20 years before it disbanded three years ago. She was a member of Beaver County Woodcarvers Club.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Sheila Kay Smith of Ambridge and Eric Wyatt Nedrow of Center Township; five grandchildren, Kristopher Maier, Catherine Rose Smith, David Eric Smith, Brandon Lee Nedrow and Justin Troy Nedrow; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Maier, Christin Lynn Buchanan and Vincent James Chapman; two sisters, Leona Collier in Florida and Kathleen Riley in North Carolina and a brother, Ray (Mary) Groves in Florida.
Along with her parents Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Nedrow, on June 1, 1996; a daughter-in-law, Charlene Nedrow, on August 9, 2005; four brothers, Asa, Virgil, Harold and Burhl Groves and four sisters, Bernice DeVall, Edna Billotti, June Nedrow and Verna Groves.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Van Kirk Lutheran Church, 106 Van Kirk Road, Monaca, PA 15061, with her pastor, Rev. Patrice Weirick, officiating.
