Helen Jean (Schuller) Werthman was 94 years young when she went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 19, 2019, peacefully in her home, surrounded by love. A lifelong resident of Monaca, Helen was born on February 8, 1925, daughter of the late Daniel and Susanna (Untch) Schuller.She was a graduate of the Monaca High School Class of 1942, and participated in numerous school activities, including cheerleading. Immediately upon graduation, she was hired by the Monaca School District where she did the school district’s payroll, paid their bills, and was school board secretary for 30 years. She loved music, and was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor. She was an avid Monaca and Pittsburgh sports fan, and especially loved cheering for her Pittsburgh Pirates & Pitt basketball teams.Helen was a long-time loving member of the former St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Monaca where she was married, taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Agnes Shade Circle. She was currently a long-time member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, also in Monaca, where she was Church Secretary and Treasurer for five years. Helen was a volunteer at Katy’s Place Daycare Center as well as the Wagner Memorial Library. She loved animals, and animals loved her, particularly her dogs that she provided a loving home for over the years.Helen was a former member of the Monaca Saxons, and had two very dear life-long friends, Dorothy Fletcher (Norman), and Doris Irons (William), deceased. They were part of her Tea Club (Card Club), which was a group of friends who met every third Wednesday of the month, to play cards, for over 65 years. Helen dedicated her life to her family, and her home was the central gathering place for every occasion from birthdays, holidays, picnics, sporting events, and also for no particular reason at all. She enjoyed over 30 years of retirement where she frequently traveled around the country visiting her beloved nieces, nephews, friends and family. Her favorite color was red, and yes, everyone knew it.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four sisters, Sue Palmquist (Thomas), Elizabeth Furstenberg (Anthony), Jennie Dennis (Edward), and Katherine Larizza (August); and brother Daniel “Hoot” Schuller.Left to cherish her memories are her children, sons Jack, Richard (Bonnie), and David; and daughter Susan Werthman Bernard (Robert); grandchildren Brian Kroskey, Leigh Ann Monac (Derek), and Chase & Hunter Werthman, as well as her extended family.Friends will be received on Friday, February 22, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca. Friends will also be received on Saturday from Noon until the time of service at 1:00 pm at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 819 Washington Avenue, Monaca with her pastor the Reverend Angela Smith officiating.
