James Ballish, 88, formerly of Monaca, passed away early Friday morning, June 21, 2013, at Friendship Ridge.
Born March 22, 1925, in Hammond, Indiana, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Yendrick) Ballish. Jim was married to Betty Jean (Roix) Ballish who preceded him in death on October 17, 2002. After proudly serving his country in the US Navy during World War II, he gained employment as a millwright at Pittsburgh Tube where he retired following 40 years of service. Jim was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Monaca Turners and various bowling leagues and a life member of Center Township VFW 1821 and Beaver County Retiree Person?s Club. He was a member of and faithfully attended the USS Gaudalcanal Task Group 22.3 Association reunions and belonged to Samson Naval Base Association. In his leisure time Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and traveling.
In addition to his wife and parents Jim was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Lyons and two brothers-in-law, Jim Mooney and Guy McKenna.
He will be sadly missed by his son, Dennis and his wife, Kathleen, of South Beaver Township, and their daughters, Rebecca (Matthew) Totzke and Sarah (Nicholas) Borelli; his daughter, Dana Evans and her husband, Jeff, of Koppel and their daughters, Samantha (Jason) Mersing and their son, Nicholas, and Blair Evans; a sister, Dorothy Mooney, three sisters-in-law, Shirley (Chuck) Hood, Gloria (Charles) Calhoun and Darlene McKenna and two brothers-in-law, Frank Lyons and Dana Roix.
Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 9 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. His pastor, Rev. Robert W. Strobel, will officiate.
Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.
Full military honors will be provided by the Beaver County Special Unit at 10:45 a.m. at the cemetery.
