James ‘Jimmy’ Leo, 29, of Monaca, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017.Born September 27, 1987, in Beaver, he was the only child of James and Cheryl A. (Merrifield) Leo. Raised in Aliquippa and later in Monaca, he attended both St. Titus, Aliquippa, and St. John the Baptist, Monaca, Catholic schools. At St. John’s, Jimmy served as an altar boy. From playing soccer in Aliquippa when he was small to playing baseball from his T-ball years through college at Penn State, Jimmy was quite athletic. He started pitching in Little League and continued through high school. Jimmy was passionate about the number 9 and always chose that number for his jersey. He also enjoyed playing basketball for St. John’s grade school and was a member of a deck hockey league. Jimmy was a huge Pittsburgh sports fan, including the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates. He had attended Penn State Beaver where he studied information technologies and computer science. Jimmy was a great person and was like by everyone. All who knew him will miss his contagious smile.In addition to his parents Jimmy leaves to mourn his loss his maternal grandmother, Joanne Merrifield and his maternal aunt and uncle, Marikay and Ken Finnell, all of Harrisburg; two paternal uncles and aunts, Joseph and Marian Leo of Monaca and Carlo and Kim Leo of Avalon; a great-aunt, Antonette Turkovich; and six cousins, Devin and Megan Finnell, Jennifer Marsh, Joseph Leo, Carlo Leo and Kim Leo.He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Harold Merrifield, and paternal grandparents, Carlo and Caroline Leo.Friends will be received Sunday, February 12th, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca. A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Monday, February 13th, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and 15th Street, Monaca.
