H. Jean (Harlow) Knopp, 74, of New Sewickley Township, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Kindred Hospital.Born May 14, 1940, in Aliquippa, she was a daughter of the late James A. and Helen A. (Mesaros) Harlow. Jean attended Hopewell schools up to her senior year when she transferred to South Side High School. Even though she left school early, she was determined to get her diploma and in 1994 she completed her GED. She worked the majority of her life as a school bus driver for J.S. Mitchell and later for R. J. Rhodes from where she retired after 38 years of service. She was also employed earlier as a waitress at the Hideaway in Hopewell and Jersey’s Corner in Rochester. Jean will be best remembered for her generosity and for preparing special meals for friends and family. As someone who could grow anything, she loved gardening, canning, making jelly, cooking and baking from the bounty of her garden. Jean had a soft spot in her heart for kids and animals, helping anyone who needed her. Her favorite teams were the Steelers and the Penguins and she enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! and working crossword puzzles.She leaves three children, Donald Knopp, Jr. and his wife Charlotte, Christine Knopp and Donna Knopp; eight grandchildren, Josh Knopp, Jacklyn Knopp, Shyloe Ryan Knopp, Adam Colbert, Kelly Colbert, Tommy Myers, Kimberly Myers and Matthew Myers; four great-grandchildren, Farah Donaldson, Madison Knopp, Bella Wiand and Teegan Myers; five siblings, Kathy Hutton, Mary Pack, Marguerite Hanna, Nancy Chamberlain and William Harlow and numerous nieces and nephews along with many friends.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. Knopp, Sr.; her son, Joseph Andrew Knopp and three grandchildren, Joseph ‘Joey’ Knopp II, Daryl ‘DJ’ Summerville and Emily Mae Knopp.Friends will be received Tuesday, July 1st, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m.Interment will take place at Union Cemetery.In lieu of flowers contributions in Jean’s memory may be made to the family in care of the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services.To share online condolences, get directions and other information, please visit simpsonfuneralhome.com.
