Joan Beatrice Schaefer (Snyder), 76, of Monaca, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Heritage Valley Beaver.Born November 1, 1939, in Pittsburgh, she was the youngest child of the late Bailey Kent and Anna Wilomena (White) Schaefer. Joan grew up on Dutch Ridge Road in Brighton Township and graduated from Beaver High School. She later furthered her education at Community College of Beaver County, where she received a degree in nursing. Joan’s career took a different path where she pursued a career in social work with the Department of Public Assistance in Rochester. Joan was a selfless person who loved her family and especially adored her grandchildren. She was a diehard Monaca Indians sports fan and an avid Steelers and Pirates fan. An amateur photographer, she was also a gifted artist, specializing in drawing and painting in various mediums. She was an avid gardener and people often commented on what a ‘green thumb’ she had.She leaves two sons, Frank C. Snyder, Jr. and Evan-Thomas P. Snyder I, and his wife, Nicole, all of Monaca, eight grandchildren, Ashley, Evan II, Madison, Mackenzie, Rowan, Carson, McKenna and Charlie; a sister, Anne Dentler of Lake Charles, LA, and a sister-in-law, June Barrett of Pittsburgh, along with numerous friends.In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Howard Snyder; three brothers, Merle Barrett, Harry Barrett, Sr., and Curtis W. ‘Buzz’ Barrett and a sister, Betty Batko.Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. Reverend Donald W.
