John B. Eggenberger, 88, of New Sewickley Township, went to be with the Lord Friday morning, May 30, 2008, in his home. His passing occurred following a brief illness.
John was born Oct. 28, 1919, in Pittsburgh, was raised in Monaca and was a graduate of Monaca High School. He married the former Nora Elliott in 1945 and built the home where they lived in New Sewickley Township in 1958. John was employed for a number of years at Heckman Hardware Store in Monaca and later gained employment with the former Pittsburgh Tool Steel and Wire Co. from where he retired. He was a lifelong and devout member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Monaca, and was a former usher, church council member and Sunday School teacher. He was also a life member of the Monaca Turners and a previous member of their bowling league. He enjoyed fishing in Canada and at Pymatuming Lake and woodworking. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Nora Eggenberger; a daughter, Marjorie Eggenberger of Patterson Heights; a sister-in-law, Dora Ruckert of Beaver Falls; a brother-in-law, Orville Elliott of Edgewater, Fla., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Hattie (Kommel) Eggenberger; two brothers, George and Carl Eggenberger; two sisters, Marie Stauffer and Elsa Schachern.
Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, (724-728-4000). Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 819 Washington Ave, Monaca. The Rev. A. Patrice Weirick will be officiating in the absence of John’s pastor. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
