John B. Potter, 74, a lifelong resident of Monaca, passed away Monday evening, April 29, 2013, at Allegheny General Hospital, where he was admitted a few hours earlier.
Born July 25, 1938, he was a son of the late John and Henrietta (Bachman) Potter. After graduating from Monaca High School, John went to work at the family business, Potter Bros. Coal and Construction Company, which he later owned and operated. John enjoyed travelling and frequently trying his luck at the casinos. As a hobby, he used his carpentry skills to construct miniature replicas of historical buildings in Monaca. Several were featured in the windows of the Monaca Community Hall of Fame building. John was a life member of the Monaca Bandroom.
He will be sadly missed by his loving companion, Isabelle Bowser of Monaca and two nieces, Andrea Cantelmi and her children, Alex, Sebastian and Sophia, of Brighton Township, and Lianne Cantelmi of Baden.
He was preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Susan and Ralph Cantelmi.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. Rev. Doug Rabe will officiate.
Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.
