John Gerace, 61 of Monaca (Center Township) died Friday July 13, 2012 at home.
Born September 5, 1950, he was the son of the late John and Esther (Darenzo) Gerace. He was a former employee of the American Bridge Company and was the former Maintenance Manager for the Medical Center, Beaver. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca and was an avid reader and master woodworker. Always a devoted father, he was a former coach for basketball, soccer and softball and never missed one of his daughter?s gymnastics events at the Monaca Turners where he was known to volunteer when needed. He loved his Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Joan (Lehnerd) Gerace; his two daughters, Stephanie Gerace of Van Nuys, CA., and Carly Gerace of Wilmington, DE.; his sister and brother in law, Connie and Robert Peters of Chippewa Township; two very special cousins, Phillip Gerace of New Brighton and Angelo Spagnoli in Michigan, and nephews and nieces, great nephews and great nieces, aunts, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Friends will be received Monday from 3-8 pm in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where parting prayers will be offered on Tuesday at 9:30 am followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 am in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. Interment will follow in St. Cecilia Cemetery, Rochester.
The family asks that no flowers or tokens of sympathy be sent. John was a wonderful husband and father and a good friend to anyone in need. He will be missed but his memory will be cherished forever.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lancaster and the staff of the Beaver Cancer Treatment Center for their care during his illness.
