John Joseph “Jack” Montague,86 of Potter Township passed away peacefully on October 31, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Hospice in Beaver. He was a beloved husband, father, cousin, veteran, and friend, known for his soft-spoken nature and organized demeanor.
Born and raised in Monaca, Jack was a graduate of Monaca High School, class of 1955. After high school, Jack answered the call of duty, serving two years in the U.S. Army stationed in South Korea. His service to his country was a testament to his courage and commitment to the values he held dear.
Upon his return from service, Jack embarked on a career at ARCO Chemical Company, where he worked until his retirement.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Montague, his beloved wife, Joan C Montague, and his son, John J ‘Jay’ Montague. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Allen Montague, and a large extended family of first, second, and third cousins, including Frank and Helen ‘Tiny’ Bischak of Economy, Nancy and the late Lex Byers of San Rafael, CA, Anthony and the late Ann Marchione of Monaca and Lowell and the late Sarah Thompson in Ohio, and many, many loving second and third cousins.
Jack was a proud member of the Monaca American Legion Post #580. He looked forward to the weekly gatherings with his cousin Frank and family at the Legion, where they would enjoy pizza on Wednesdays, fish on Fridays, and friendly competition at the Hot Pepper machine.
Friends will be received on Friday, November 3rd from 2-4 pm at SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, where a blessing service will begin at 4 pm. with Father Candice McMullen, officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Beaver County Special at 2 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery next to his late wife, Joan.
