After an extended illness, John J. Ross, Atty., passed away peacefully at his home on December 26, 2022, surrounded by his five children at the age of 89.
Born July 11, 1933 in West Aliquippa, PA. John was a son of the late John and Rosa (Carrozza) Rossi.
John was a graduate of Aliquippa High School where he was involved in acrobatics and hand balancing. He then continued his education at Geneva College prior to entering the U S Army during the Korean War. Returning home from the military, John enrolled in the West Virginia University Law School to pursue a career as an attorney. He also was elected and served the citizens of Aliquippa as their mayor. During his tenure, he had the honor of presenting the key to the city of Aliquippa to President Jimmy Carter in 1978. John later became a public defender at the Beaver County Courthouse. He was an avid reader, loved to play golf, make wine and prosciutto and cooking. He was the owner of Rossi’s Winery and Restaurant in West Aliquippa and a member of St. Titus Catholic Church in Aliquippa. Most of all, he loved entertaining and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jacquelyn .J (Frioni) Ross and grandson, Michael J. Ross Tatalovich. Three sisters: Josephine (Fiore) Rossi, Theresa (Sylvan) D’Antonio and Mary (Angelo) Ross. Two brothers: Fred Ross and Louis Ross. Five brothers in law: Thomas Frioni, E. Robert Frioni, Luke Frioni. Barry Frioni and Mark Frioni.
John is survived by his five children: James (Lisa) Ross, J.R. Ross, Louis 9Naomi) Ross, and twin daughters, Rose (Ross) Morrison and Mary C Ross. Seven grandchildren: James Jr. (Jessica) Ross, Joseph Ross, Brianna Morrison (Micah) Byrum, Ashleigh Morrison, London Ross, Rocket Ross and Skye Ross. Great grandchildren: Geno Ross and Mirabella Ross. His brother, Anthony (Antionette) Ross of Aliquippa, Two sisters in law, Mary Ann “Babe” Ross of Center Township and Carol Frioni of Pittsburgh Two brothers in law and their wives, Dennis (Julie) Frioni of Baden and Eugene (Joan) Frioni of Aliquippa. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Respecting John’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Jan19th at 10:30 am at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. Burial will follow with military honors at 1pm at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. John also requested a funeral luncheon consisting of traditional Italian food with wine and prosciutto.
