John Richard (Dick) Evans Sr. of North Fayette Township, PA born to Herbert and Margaret Evans of Monaca, Pennsylvania passed away on 4/22/2022 at the age of 83. Dick was an athlete, popular member of the community, successful businessman, good husband, proud father, even prouder grandfather, and one heck of a fun guy though it can be said that not everyone appreciated his sense of humor. Dick asked that his proudest moment and his funniest stories be included in his obituary. His proudest moment was when two respected teachers from West Allegheny School District pulled him aside to let him know that they hoped their children turned out as well as his kids turned out. As far as his funniest stories, well, they are simply not fit for print.
Dick spent his childhood in Monaca, PA and was a member of the Monaca High School Class of 1956. Dick played on the 1956 championship basketball team and was named to the All Beaver County Team. After graduation he attended Geneva College for the summer where, per his own description regarding what he studied, he replied that he took up ‘time and space’ before volunteering to join the US ARMY.
Upon return from the Armed Forces, Dick started work in Traffic and Transportation where he remained for the rest of his career. Dick was a life member of the former Traffic and Transportation Association (T&TA) as well as a founding member and part owner of the Pittsburgh Spring Company.
Locally, Dick coached Little League Baseball and helped found the North Fayette Volunteer Fire Department. Dick was an active participant in the North Fayette softball and volleyball leagues.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marianne Austin Evans, his very successful and accomplished children, their spouses, and his grandchildren. Children, John Richard Evans, Jr. of Beaver Falls, PA (late Mary Kay), Michael Scott Evans (Shawn Marie) of Land O’ Lakes, Fl, Wendy Ellen Swartz (David B.), of Melbourne Beach, Fl and Eric Austin Evans (Kari Leigh) of Fort Payne, AL.
