John R. ‘Jack’ McCullough, Jr., 90, of Potter Township, passed away Thursday morning, June 12, 2014, at Heritage Valley Beaver.Born in Monaca, he was a son of the late John R. Sr. and Elizabeth (Smith) McCullough. A graduate of Monaca High School, Class of 1942, John found employment with St. Joe Lead in Potter Township, before entering the US Army Air Corps in 1942. A graduate of AAF Flexible Gunnery School, John served as a navigator aboard B17G as a lieutenant, based with the 385th bomb group during World War II, flying on 33 missions. Following his discharge in 1944, he went back to work with St. Joe and completed 34 years of service as a millwright in the maintenance department, for which he was recognized. He then worked at the Medical Center, Beaver, for three years. John served in various capacities on the Potter Township School Board and the township’s Water Authority. In his leisure time, he enjoyed camping and hiking at Raccoon Creek State Park.He will be sadly missed by his wife of 65 years, Mildred M. (Marsik) McCullough, with whom he was united in marriage on September 4, 1948, at Cleveland Heights Presbyterian Church, Cleveland, Ohio; a daughter, Jean Ruth Bowser and her husband, Earl, of New Martinsville, West Virginia; two grandsons, Douglas Earl Bowser and Philip John (Suzanne) Bowser; three great-granddaughters; a brother, William Frank McCullough, and his wife, Patricia, of Center Township and a sister, Helen McCullough Stuehling, of Phoenixville, Penna.In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, James Stuehling, who preceded him in death on June 26, 2008.Per John’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services.
