John ‘J.T.’ ‘Smitty’ Smith, 64, of New Brighton, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2015, at his residence.Born August 11, 1950, in Rochester, he was a son of the late Ernest Clayton and Annabelle (Hineman) Smith. After serving in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, he returned home and joined the Pennsylvania National Guard where he was active for a number of years. He also was employed by the state, retiring after 20 years of service. J.T. enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and was honest to a fault. An excellent dad and wonderful grandpa, he had a love of nature and a passion for fishing. J.T. was a former member of the Zelienople Sportsman’s Club and the Beaver Falls Elks.He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Klara Domena of New Brighton; three grandchildren, Destiney Smith, Joseph Smith and Ava Smith; a great-grandson, Avion Law; three brothers, Kenneth (Mary) Smith of Industry, David (Laura) Smith of New Castle and Henry (Celeste) Smith of New Brighton; four sisters, Joanne (Wayne) Lanigan, Janet ‘Tina’ Smith and Rosie Smith, all of Akron, OH, and Lulu (Carl) Bowser of Daugherty Township; a sister-in-law, Irene Smith and a host of nieces and nephews.Along with his parents J.T. was preceded in death by five brothers, Ernest Jr., Clay (Cinda), Edward, Donald and William and a brother-in-law, Keith McKnight.Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca (724-728-4000), where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m.Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, where full military honors will be provided at 1 p.m.To share online condolences, get directions and other information, please visit simpsonfuneralhome.com.
