Joseph “Champ” Trella

Joseph “Champ” Trella died on Jan 14, 2023 surrounded by his family after a short illness. Champ was the son of Joseph and Margaret (Hermick) Trella. He was born in Monaca, PA on Dec.11, 1937. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his Step-Mother Sadie Trella, sister Mary Jane Speigle and nephews Fred Miller and Dave Speigle Jr.

Champ leaves three loving daughters, Tricia Trella of Dayton, OH, Tiffaney (Ronny Zetts) Trella of Poland, Ohio and Torrie (Mike) Ward of Youngstown, Ohio. He was very proud of his three grandchildren, Alexys Shields of Reno, Nevada, Adam (Abby Kawecki) Shields II of Greenford, Ohio and Mikey Ward of Youngstown, Ohio. He leaves his sister Patty (Fred) Miller of Monca, PA, brother-in-law David Speigle Sr. of New Brighton, PA and many loving nephews and grand nieces and nephews that will miss him.

He was a proud Navy veteran and worked for IBEW local 712, Manheim, Baierl Toyota and Cox Automotive.

Champ was very athletic and was a Pittsburgh Golden Gloves Boxing Champion. Champ was a happy man and anyone who met him was his friend and could expect him to break out in song or get a few jokes. In his later years he became a motorcycle enthusiast and loved his Indian Motorcycle.

Friends will be received on Sunday, January 22nd from 1 pm until the time of services with military honors at 5 pm at SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca.
