After his retirement, Joe and Shirley traveled to New England to eat lobster and visit the coast each spring and spent a month in Hilton Head at the beach every October with Sadie. Joe loved to golf with his brother Dan, go to Steelers games with his daughters and proudly show his ACLU card to anyone who chatted with him about politics. Joe was devoted to his family, offering his help and advice generously to all. He is survived by his wife Shirley, his daughters Sara Turkovich and her wife Mary Louise Churak and Sally Turkovich Wright and her husband Jason Wright, his sister Mosey Schmider and brother Dan Turkovich and his wife Lynn Turkovich. Joe was helped through his illness by a team of dedicated medical professionals, including the staff at the transfusion center at Heritage Valley and the office of Dr. Stewart Lancaster. In honor of his wishes, no memorial service will be held and his remains will be scattered at the home he was so proud to own.
