Justus T. Merkel, Jr., 96 of Monaca was welcomed into his Heavenly Home and was reunited with his late wife Dorothy on Wednesday, December 5, 2018.Born on September 9, 1922 he was the son of the late Justus T., Sr. and Katherine (Shriner) Merkel.  A lifelong resident of Monaca, Justus was a US Army World War II Veteran who served in the Phillipines and Hawaii.  Having a love for aeronautics, he was a pioneer with radio controlled model planes and won numerous awards.  Justus was the oldest surviving member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monaca and was always available to lend a hand to his family. He walked with character each day and appreciated the life God granted him.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 1999 and a brother.Justus is survived by two sons, Justus D. (Denise) Merkel of Baden and James D. (Jacque) Merkel of Adams Township, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.Friends will be received on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, followed by a funeral service on Saturday at 11:00 AM with his pastor the Reverend Beth Wierman.  Full military honors will be performed by the Beaver County Special Unit at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Chapel in Rochester on Saturday at 11:45 AM.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Justus’s memory to Good Samaritan Hospice, c/o Concordia Lutheran Ministries Foundation, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA  16023 or to the First Presbyterian Church, 1301 Indiana Avenue, Monaca, PA  15061.To share online condolences, get directions and other information, please visit simpsonfuneralhome.com.
