Kay F. Caplinger, 70, of Center Township, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016, at Beaver Elder Care, surrounded by her family.Born October 16, 1946, in New Brighton, she was a daughter of the late James and Katheryn (Clark) Matthews. A faithful member of Monacrest Free Methodist Church in Monaca, Kay served as a secretary to their former pastor, Rev. Dino Pulice, and, due to her love of children, was involved in the church’s children activities, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Christian Youth Crusaders (CYC). She was also a former secretary of the Center Township #2 V.F.D. Auxiliary, a former member of the Election Board in Center Township and a former Girl Scout leader.In addition to her parents Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Roy D. Caplinger, on May 10, 2012; a brother, James Matthews and an ‘adopted sister’, Mary Fike.She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Jill DeWeese, and her husband, James, of Center Township and Brandy Caplinger Skiles, of Salem, OH; five grandchildren, J. R. DeWeese, Courtney Bartosh, Tyler Caplinger Joshua Grooms and Sean DeWeese; four siblings, Connie Matthews of Monaca, Debra Flinner and her husband, David, of New Brighton, Roger Matthews and his wife, Christine, of Monaca and Kelly Matthews of Center Township; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lelia Matthews, Robert and Beverly Caplinger, Anna Mae Caplinger, Shirley Caplinger and Beatrice Caplinger; along with several nieces and nephews.Friends will be received Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. with her pastor, Rev.
