Lena Proto, 88, of Monaca, was reunited with her husband, Raffael Proto, on Wednesday, August 10, 2016.Born March 9, 1928, in Cittanova, Reggio Calabria, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Valentino and Caterina D’agostino. When Lena and her husband, Raffael, came to America in 1966, they made their home in Monaca. Lena was a selfless humanitarian, regularly helping in the community and giving her time in any way she could, both in America and in Cittanova, Italy – her hometown. A stalwart and faithful member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, in Monaca, Lena was an active member of the Christian Mothers and volunteered her time by serving lunches to children in the cafeteria and also donating her time to the church. Lena also loved cooking and baking, and always kept an open table for anyone. Most of all, Lena loved her family more than anything and her family returned that love in life and always.She will be sadly missed by her beloved daughter, Marie Proto; a cherished granddaughter, Kristina Casimiri, and a brother, Rocco D’agostino in Torino, Italy.In addition to her husband and parents, Lena was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.Friends will be received Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, where parting prayers will be offered Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monaca. Rev. Michael R.
