Lester A. ?Jr.? ?Lenny? Gaines, Jr., 56, of Ellwood City, passed away early Monday morning, April 15, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot. Lenny resided with Harry Daufen.
Born October 3, 1956, in Rochester, he was a son of the late Lester A. Sr. and Vivian Joanne (Kennedy) States. Lenny was also preceded in death by his step-father, David States, and step-mother, Janice Gaines. Raised in Hopewell Township, he was a graduate of Hopewell High School and worked as a farmhand. Lenny loved being on the farm and working with the animals. He enjoyed watching his favorite cable channel, Animal Planet, and also cooking shows. Lenny won several ribbons for his baked goods at the Big Knob Fair. In his leisure time Lenny could be found playing cards and spending time with his great-nieces and great-nephews, James III, Anita and Skyler Coe.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian ?Joanne? States and a brother, Robbie Lee Gaines.
He leaves two sisters, Karen Yohe of Rochester and Kathy Douglas of Ambridge; a brother, Estey Gaines in Ohio; two half-sisters, Peggy Winterrowd of Center Township and Robin Cassidy in Florida; two step-sisters, Genny Gaines in W. Va. and Anna Plum of Hookstown and two step-brothers, Matthew Gaines in Minn., and Peter Hertzler of New Brighton and several of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca, PA 15061, to help defray expenses.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot, for the compassionate care Lenny received.
