Lorenzo (Lawrence) DeFilippi, 94, a longtime resident of Monaca, went to sleep in heavenly peace on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, in the comfort of his beloved family and secure in the knowledge that he would be reunited with his loving wife, Angeline.Born February 10, 1921, in Villa St. Stefano, Italy, he was a son of the late Paulo and Angela (Leo) DeFilippi. A proud veteran Larry served in the US Army and was stationed at the 241st General Hospital and participated in the Rhineland campaign during World War II. After the war he found employment at J&L Steel, Aliquippa, in the welded tube department and retired in 1983 with 42 years of service. On September 25, 1948, Larry was united in marriage with the love of his life, Angeline A. Silla. They spent 53 years of wedded bliss before Angeline was called home to heaven on November 26, 2001. Of all the events in Larry’s life, he lived for Sunday dinners and holiday gatherings spent with his loving family. Those memories will be treasured by all his remaining relatives. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monaca.He will be sadly missed by his loving daughters, Linda Walsh and her husband, Tom, of Center Township with whom he resided and Angela Kalervo and her husband, Dave, of Monaca; his beloved four grandchildren, Thomas Walsh and his wife, Veronica, Brian Walsh and his fiancée, Marisa D’Eramo, Lori Zelesnik, and her husband, Tom, and Kristin Colbert and her husband, Brent; six great-grandchildren whom he adored, Sienna and Bria Zelesnik, Isabella and Isaiah Lorenzo Walsh and Maddox and Brynlee Colbert; a brother, Albert DeFilippi of Center Township and many loving nieces and nephews.A mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monaca, with Fr. Michael Ruffalo as the celebrant. Entombment will follow in Sylvania Hills Mausoleum. As per Mr. DeFilippi’s wishes, there will be no public viewing.
